The Reverse Biomechanics
In a standard shoulder joint, the rotator cuff muscles pull the arm bone ball against the socket to lift the arm. If the rotator cuff is completely torn and degraded, the shoulder loses its fulcrum, making it impossible to raise the arm (pseudoparalysis).
A reverse shoulder replacement reverses the normal anatomy: a metal ball is fixed to the socket, and a plastic cup is placed on the humerus shaft. By moving the fulcrum, the large deltoid muscle on the outside of your shoulder takes over the lifting work, bypassing the torn rotator cuff entirely.

Shoulder Care FAQs
You will wear a sling for 4 to 6 weeks to allow the tendon to heal to the bone. Passive physiotherapy starts in the first week, followed by active strengthening at 6 weeks. Full return to overhead sports takes about 4 to 6 months.
A reverse shoulder replacement is recommended for patients who have severe shoulder arthritis combined with a massive, unrepairable rotator cuff tear, or when traditional shoulder replacement has failed.
