The Bipolar Hemiarthroplasty Approach
Unlike a total replacement, a hemiarthroplasty only replaces the ball portion of the joint. In a bipolar configuration, the implant consists of a femoral stem with a dual-mobility head. A smaller head rotates inside a larger plastic and metal shell, which in turn rotates within your natural pelvic socket.
This dual-rotation design reduces friction and wear on your natural socket cartilage and significantly decreases the risk of post-operative hip dislocation. Because it is a faster surgery with less blood loss than a total replacement, it is highly suited for elderly patients requiring rapid mobilization.

Rapid Fracture Mobilization
Dealing with a hip fracture or require emergency consultation? Coordinate with Dr. Vikrant Sinha Roy's team immediately.
Pre-Operative Preparation & Clinical Evaluation
A successful orthopaedic outcome starts with meticulous planning. Prior to scheduling any procedure, patients undergo a thorough medical evaluation, including cardiac clearances, complete blood profiles, and tailored joint imaging.
3D Anatomical Mapping
CT scans or high-res MRIs are loaded into the computer software to pre-plan bone cuts and implant size before entering the theatre.
Pre-Hab Exercises
Mild quadriceps and core strengthening exercises are recommended to build muscle tone, which speeds up postoperative recovery.
Post-Operative Rehabilitation & Recovery Pathways
Rehabilitation is a critical phase of recovery. Following surgery, Dr. Vikrant Sinha Roy's team coordinates with clinical physiotherapists to execute structured post-op exercises, facilitating joint mobilization, restoring gait patterns, and strengthening surrounding muscle groups.
Phase 1: Mobilization (Week 1-2)
Focus on wound healing, swelling management, and walking with support.
Phase 2: Strengthening (Week 3-6)
Transitioning to walking independently, climbing stairs, and building muscle flexibility.
Phase 3: Functional Restoration (Week 6+)
Returning to normal daily work, traveling, and light recreational sports.
Patient Success Stories
"I was diagnosed with Avascular Necrosis (AVN) of the hip joint and was in terrible pain. Dr. Vikrant performed a total hip replacement. The relief was immediate. I was walking with minimal support by day 2 and am fully independent now."

Hip Care FAQs
Modern hip replacement implants (using ceramic-on-crosslinked polyethylene materials) are highly durable and are expected to last 20 to 25 years or more under normal daily use.
Total hip replacement replaces both the femur head and the acetabular socket, ideal for severe arthritis. Bipolar hip replacement is typically performed for femoral neck fractures in elderly patients where the socket is healthy.
